1970 Winkie Convention
Ruth Keep, assisted by Gerry Harris (of Missouri!), hosted the 1970 Winkie Convention at her home in Ojai, California. Featured at the event was a huge map of Oz hand-crafted over many years by Joan and Wally Adams. The Oz Film Manufacturing Company’s His Majesty, the Scarecrow of Oz was shown, and the first Winkie quiz aimed at the juvenile members was won by Jon Bellman. Sonya Brown, who enjoyed developing elaborately argued theses gave a presentation that demonstrated that she is truly Ozma of Oz. Claude Cain of San Francisco gave a rigorous analysis of the similarities and differences between the Baum and Thompson Oz books. And once again Rodger Farr served as auctioneer, raising funds to support not only the expenses of this Seventh Winkie Convention, but The International Wizard of Oz Club, as well, continuing a long Winkie Convention tradition.
