For 1977, teenager Bronson Pinchot (who had attended his first Winkie Convention as a thirteen-year-old at Cambria Pines Lodge) served as an entertaining program chair. Oz Club Secretary, Fred M. Meyer, gave a stirring history of Oz artist and author, John R. Neill. Fred had attended every Winkie Convention since 1964 (except for the one in 1965 which took place while he was still teaching classes in Escanaba, Michigan). Peter Hanff presented a slide talk on Neill's art to complement Fred's presentation. Aljean Harmetz gave a lively summary of her book, THE MAKING OF THE WIZARD OF OZ. She benefitted, she reported, from the pioneering work on the MGM movie by John Fricke, Pete Hanff, and others in THE BAUM BUGLE over the years. She made the remarkable discovery that the place to look for successive drafts of the screenplay was in the legal department at MGM. Warren Hollister once again served as a very lively auctioneer.
